The New York State Budget and What it Means to Brookhaven

This is another year that we must address the Governor's budget proposal and how it will dramatically impact Brookhaven. Governor Paterson's Executive Budget for state fiscal year 2010-2011 would impose about $1 billion in cuts and taxes on hospitals, nursing homes, and home care providers, according to the Healthcare Association of New York State's (HANYS) evaluation of the Governor's proposals.

Please take the time to express your concerns about Governor Paterson's proposed 2010-2011 state budget. All New Yorkers are encouraged to visit helpyourhospital.org to find out the impact of the Governor's budget on their local facilities and communities, and to send letters to representatives in the state Senate and Assembly. Let's all be informed and take action.

Welcome New Employees

This week 28 new employees attended the monthly orientation. Their talents and expertise range from nursing to nutritional service, adding to the many talents that are necessary to deliver the Brookhaven Promise. Please welcome them to our staff.

Congratulations to All of Our New RN and LPN Graduates

Three graduates from our Nurse Aide Training Program continued their education via the Suffolk County Community College Partnership and graduated in the December 2009 RN and LPN Class. Congratulations to Brianne Vernam, Ryan Shea and Neil Monte. Your talents and education will be an asset to the patients you care for, your coworkers, and the Medical Center as a whole. We are proud of you for seizing this wonderful opportunity, and I wish you much success in your career.
