Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalency. Medical assistant certification required. Medical terminology and assistance skills required. Experience with an electronic medical record and Excel skills preferred. Bi-lingual preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required in order to communicate effectively with multi-level staff members and patients. Surgical office experience preferred and must be detail oriented and possess the ability to work independently.

The Medical Assistant for the Brookhaven Bariatric & Wellness Program is responsible for managing the patient care visit from the time of greeting to the patient exit. They will assist the provider during office hours. The Medical Assistant will actively participate in patient care as it relates to basic interviewing of the patient and their family, obtaining a concrete chief complaint and related information, basic intake skills as it relates to the gathering of patient data. Assistance to the surgeon during visits to the office will be provided. This position will track all patients identified for surgery and record their activity in the electronic medical record, including but not limited to, weekly status calls, specialist consults and testing results, scheduling surgery and obtaining insurance authorizations.
