Knapp Cardiac Care Center

Knapp Cardiac Care Center at Brookhaven is now affiliated with the Heart and Vascular Institute at Winthrop-University Hospital.

Our new partnership with Winthrop, which brings their renowned cardiac team right here to our Center - and our on-site cardiac catheterization laboratory- deliver on our promise to provide the most advanced cardiovascular expertise to the patients we care for.

Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization Lab

Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center and the Heart and Vascular Institute at Winthrop-University Hospital have formed a partnership to bring high-quality cardiac services to the community through the Knapp Cardiac Care Center's state-of-the-art Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The partnership utilizes Winthrop's expertise in cardiovascular care and has enhanced Brookhaven's capacity to provide care and services to people in the community.

Cardiac catheterization is an essential tool for diagnosing and guiding the treatment of heart disease. It enables Brookhaven cardiologists to visualize and assess the condition of the coronary arteries, and it provides vital information for treating blockages that can restrict blood flow to the heart.

Non-Invasive Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory
At Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, our cardiac patients receive high quality care in a state-of-the-art Non-Invasive Cardiology Laboratory. In today's society, women lead active lives in a high-pressure environment. Along with these pressures comes an added risk for heart disease. Women suffer from heart disease at an ever-increasing rate. Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center recognizes these as well as the health needs of other special groups and has integrated them into our carefully designed diagnostic services.
Cardiac Diagnostic Tests
  • Echocardiogram
  • Exercise EKG (Treadmill Test)
  • Holter Monitoring
  • King of Hearts
  • Multi-Gated Acquisition or Gated Blood Pool Study (Resting MUGA)
  • Myocardial Perfusion Imaging
  • Signal Averaged Electrocardiogram (SAECG)
  • Transtelephonic Arrhythmia Monitor (TAM)
  • Vectorcardiogram (VCG)
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac Rehabilitation at Brookhaven combines a program of exercise with patient education to improve physical conditioning and awareness of cardiac risk factors. The aerobic exercise equipment available includes a stationary bicycle, a rowing machine, a stair stepper, a treadmill and arm ergometers. The program is directly managed by highly trained and qualified Exercise Physiologists and Critical Care Nurse Specialists who are supervised by a Physician Medical Director. The primary goals of the program are to facilitate the return to an active lifestyle for patients recovering from a heart attack, coronary bypass surgery or angioplasty, and to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from exertional angina.
If you would like more information, please consult your physician or call the Medical Center at 631-654-7243.
