The Emergency Department Internship Program
The ED Internship Program will provide the new graduate with further
education and clinical rotations to expand their knowledge and experience
in Emergency Nursing.
Coursework
It is necessary for the RN to complete the following courses before
proceeding with the final rotation and orientation into the Emergency
Department.

- Respiratory Therapy
- SICU/MICU/CCU
- Behavioral Health
A program designed specifically for
the Registered Nurse graduate
choosing Emergency Nursing
as a specialty.
This program is endorsed and monitored by the NYS DOH.
About The Program
The ED Internship Program is a 12-month program that offers
graduating RN's clinical rotations and expands their knowledge
by interacting various disciplines throughout the Medical
Center. Students will be assigned to a Clinical Educator.
There will be classroom and hands on training. Students
must pass various programs (ex. ECG interpretation course)
prior to beginning the final rotation and orientation to
the ED.
Successful completion of the program includes passing of
courses and submitting of all relevant material based on the
instructors' timeline. Students may have varied work
schedules depending on the normal operating hours in a
clinical area.
Upon successful completion, the student will be
guaranteed a full time position in the Emergency
Department.

Eligibility
- New RN Graduates or Registered Nurses with less than 6 months clinical experience.
- Must be graduating from a 2 or 4 year college program and pass the NCLEX exam.
To Apply
All applicants must submit the following to the Clinical Recruitment
and Retention Coordinator in the Human Resources Department:
- An essay articulating reasons for wishing to participate in
this program and why they are choosing Emergency Nursing as a specialty.
- A copy of their most recent transcript.
- Two letters of reference from college professors.
- Current resume. Current Employees must submit a transfer request
with all corresponding documents. New Applicants must submit a completed
application with all corresponding documents.
- Candidates will be interviewed by members of the ED Management
Team as well as members of the ED Clinical Staff.
Notes
Course outlines, conditions and requirements will be reviewed if
the candidate is deemed a potential candidate for the program

State Department of Health.
