The years may have changed technology, but our "tradition of caring" continues.
The years have seen astounding changes in the field of maternal and child health. One thing that has not changed is the caring you will find throughout our unit. We care for our moms, newborns, and our young patients with a dedication that has continued over four decades. We cared then, and we care now.
Some things do change though. With prominent advances in technology, our Maternal/Child Health Unit has kept pace with the times. Our community members are confident of the quality of care they will receive during this momentous time in their lives with our newly renovated Labor and Delivery Suite or our modernized Patchogue Kiwanis Pediatric Unit. Our Labor and Delivery Suite offers women a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. A home-like Birthing Room makes the childbirth experience a more natural option for women today. Through our Maternity Unit, community members are offered various support groups designed especially for the needs of our expectant and new parents. A hotline set up specifically for the community avails itself to you 24 hours a day. Anytime, day or night. If you have a question about caring for your new baby, we are here for you. Our Certified Lactation Consultant provides one-on-one assistance for new moms who are breast-feeding. She will not only answer your questions while you are here but follow-up when you return home.

Child Car Seat Law Enforcement
New York State law requires that all children under the age of four be safely secured in a federally approved child restraint while traveling in a private passenger vehicle. Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center wholeheartedly endorses this law and urges that new mothers and fathers comply with it for the sake of their child's safety. Specifically, we recommend that you equip your car with an approved child restraint before you take your very first trip with your newborn - the trip home from the hospital.
A shopping guide for car seats can be obtained by calling the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee at 518-474-5111. Calls are answered from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays.
