BMHMC Classes & Support Groups

Alcoholics Anonymous

A support group for men and women who wish to recover/refrain from drinking and its associated problems. Call -669-1124

Meets: Every Friday, and Saturday
Time: Fridays:8 pm- 9:30, (only open to people in recovery)

Saturday from 8:00-9:00 pm (open to the general public)

Place: Fridays and Saturdays in Conference Room 2A, (BMHMC)


BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

Registration is required for all groups except for the General Bereavement Support Group (registration is preferred).

All of the bereavement support groups meet at the Carroll & Henrietta Swezey Medical Pavilion at 105 W. Main Street in Patchogue.

General Bereavement Support:

For widows, widowers, or those who have lost parents, relatives, or significant others:

Every Wednesday-2:00-3:30pm

Every Wednesday-6: 30 - 8:00 p.m.


Children's Support Groups: (8 Sessions)

"Little Stars" ages four to twelve Tuesday evening

"Just Us" ages thirteen and up Tuesday evening (Times to be determined by Social Worker)

Diabetes Self Management Classes:

4 two-hour sessions to educate those diagnosed with diabetes on ways to help manage their disease. Topics include the following: Diabetes Overview, Nutrition, Activity and Foot Care Monitoring, Medications, Complications and Sick Days, and Miscellaneous Topics

Each participant will have a pre and post class individual assessment with a registered nurse and a registered dietician who are Certified Diabetes Educators. Pre-registration and a Doctor's referral are required. For more information please click here or call 687-4188.

Diabetes Club

For those people with Diabetes, this group offers education and support about the disease and its treatments.  This is offered at no cost to the community. Family members are welcome. For more information or to be placed on the mailing list please call 631- 654-7778  

Meets: Third Tuesday of the month except for July, August and December.

Time: 7:30 pm- 8:45 pm

Healthy Hearts Educational Series:

Presented by cardiology Services, this free series is offered to patients, families, and the community. Six consecutive one-hour classes help participants to gain healthy lifestyle practices to reduce risk factors for heart disease. Topics include nutrition, exercise, stress management, and medications. A healthy snack is provided. Meets: Next series to be scheduled For more information call: 631- 654-7240


Look Good, Feel Better

This is a program offered by The American Cancer Society in conjunction with the Personal Care Products Council and the National Cosmetology Association. This program is provided free of charge to women undergoing treatment for cancer. The program teaches beauty techniques, which help combat the appearance, related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Participants will receive a personal cosmetic kit worth $250.00. Pre-registration is required.

Mental Health Family Education and Support Group:

For family and friends of people struggling with mental illness and/or substance abuse.

Time: 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Place: Nursing education classroom 212 at 100 Hospital Road, Patchogue NY (Medical office building located directly across the street from BMHMC)


Multiple Sclerosis Support Group:

This is an ongoing support group to enhance the quality of life for individuals with MS, their families and care partners. To register call Jamie Cummings at 631-742-4774.

Meets: 2nd Monday of the month

Ostomy Support Group:

Overeaters Anonymous:

Parkinson's Disease Support Group

A Support Group to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Parkinson's disease and their family or caregivers,

Renal Care Givers Support Group:

Education and support for family members and caregivers of individuals on dialysis provided by a licensed clinical social worker. Information and support includes counseling on topics such as entitlement and community resources, transportation and travel.

A Pre-Renal Education Program

For patients with renal disease who do not yet require dialysis therapy, this education program can be provided as needed.

This is a free support Group that strives to help patients and families of Stroke Survivors through caring, knowledge and support.
