There is increasing evidence that cellular phones cause interference with the functioning of hospital equipment such as ventilators, monitors, pumps, incubators, dialysis machines and smoke detectors. The phenomenon is believed to be caused by radio frequency interference generated by transmitters in the telephone, which interfere with computer microprocessors vital to the operation of today's sophisticated medical devices. In light of this information, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center requires that cellular phones are turned off (not on standby mode) while in the hospital. To ensure the safety of our patients, routine cellular phone use is prohibited in the Medical Center.
Anastasia's Cafe is located off the hospital's Lobby and is open to the public. The Cafe offers a variety of hot and cold meals, snacks and specialty coffee and beverages. Its hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day).
Flowers are delivered to patients in their rooms by florist staff. Flowers are not permitted in the Intensive Care Units.
Adjacent to the Coffee Shop is the hospital's Gift Shop, offering a large selection of gift items, books, magazines and toiletries. The shop is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. If you would like a particular item from the Gift Shop brought to a patient's room, please call 631-654-7153.
All mail sent to patients is delivered to their rooms by hospital volunteers.
